While they have some great players (i.e. Clint Dempsey, Landon Donovan), the squad lacks strength in depth. On the evidence from the Confederations Cup, they team is extremely well organised and motivated so they could be underdogs.
The most they could hope for, in my view, is a second phase or quarter finals at best.
